Yes, drywall should be installed on the ceiling surface prior to installing our Shallow Beam Coffered Ceiling Kit for the following reasons:
1. The underlying ceiling surface will be visible within the center of each coffer.
2. Your local fire code will more than likely require a layer of drywall on the ceiling as a fire barrier between floors along with a scratch coat of joint compound.
3. It will provide a clean continuous surface on which to mark center of the ceiling and to snap guide lines to aid in the installation process.
Typical Shallow Beam Coffered Ceiling Kit installations on an average size and height ceiling can be completed in 1 -2 days. All of our Shallow Beam Coffered Ceiling Kit components are manufactured from a High Density Urethane (HDU) foam polymer that is similar in density to White Pine. HDU can be cut, sawed, shaped, routed, nailed, glued and screwed just like wood, but unlike wood it’s much lighter and it won’t crack, flake, blister or warp while also being impervious to moisture.
HDU ceiling materials are also environmentally friendly. For every piece of HDU millwork purchased there is one less strain put on the world’s natural forest resources.
There are no standard coffer sizes with our Shallow Beam Coffered Ceiling Kits. The Shallow Beam ceiling treatment offers a collection of standard sized and designed beam lineals and fittings which may be used in any combination to create both classic and unique layout designs on your ceiling. The resulting sizes of the coffers have no standards or limitations in how large they can be.
Not to worry! The unique catalog of components offered for the Shallow Beam Coffered Ceiling Kit provide you with the flexibility needed for it to be used on any shape ceiling.
Not to worry! No ceiling is ever perfectly square, nor is any wall perfectly flat or straight and we realize this.
When utilizing the Perimeter Molding option for your project, any differences between the Perimeter Beams and Fittings and the surrounding walls will be covered so they need not be perfect or tight to the walls.
Alternatively, if you have opted not to include a Perimeter Molding with your kit, you will need to take extra time and care to ensure that you scribes and/or taper the Perimeter Beams and Perimeter Fittings so that they fit tightly to the surrounding walls so that they are visually acceptable once caulked.
All Shallow Beam Coffered Ceiling Kits are made to order and have a manufacturing lead time of 2 – 4 weeks from the date of order.
