Why has White Oak traditionally been used to make barrels?
White Oak has vessels that are commonly plugged with structures called tyloses, which greatly restrict the passage of liquids through the wood. This natural characteristic made White Oak particularly valuable for watertight barrels and other forms of tight cooperage.
