Why does Rustic Hickory have so much natural color variation?
Hickory naturally has strong contrast between its lighter sapwood and darker heartwood, along with noticeable differences in grain from board to board. Rustic grades retain more of these natural characteristics, so the finished installation develops varied tones instead of a uniform wood color.
