What is Douglas Fir?
Many people tend to confuse Pine and Douglas Fir or think that there is no real difference between these two popular wood species. This is understandable because both are softwoods harvested in the northern hemisphere and are used extensively in the building trades for lumber, plywood, flooring and other woodworking projects.
While both species have their merits and are excellent choices for a variety of projects, there are some differences you should be aware of when considering which one you may want to purchase for your home:
1. Grain & Stability
Wood grain is an excellent indicator of overall stability. The closer together grain lines are, the more strength and stability there is to the wood. Pine tends to have broad grain lines that wander, and if not properly prepared and dried (like all of our Pine Planks are) the soft wood between those grain lines may expand and contract, causing cupping and twisting. Douglas Fir on the other hand, features a tight, flowing grain pattern that is naturally more resistant to warping and twisting.
Pine’s grain structure varies in colors ranging from brown to yellow-white while Douglas Fir has a uniform dull-yellow color. Douglas Fir grain features a beautiful flowing effect that is absolutely stunning and because of its incredibly uniform appearance, it readily accepts a wide variety of finishes with great consistency.

DO YOU OFFER MATCHING MOLDINGS OR TRIM FOR THE CEILING & WALL PLANKS?

DOES TILTON OFFER TOUCH-UP KITS FOR THEIR CEILING & WALL PLANKS?

HOW DO I MEASURE FOR CEILING & WALL PLANKS?
The easiest way to measure for Ceiling & Wall Planks is by using the square foot method. To calculate the square footage simply measure the length of your ceiling or wall and multiply it by the width. Add up all the walls and/or ceilings you would like to cover and deduct for any window or door openings to determine the exact square footage. Then add 15% to allow for waste.
HOW MUCH DO CEILING & WALL PLANKS WEIGH?
The Ceiling & Wall Planks weigh in at just 1 – 1.25 pounds per linear foot, which translates to about 8-10 pounds per 8ft plank and 16-20 pounds per 16ft plank.

Yes. Most Ceiling & Wall Planks have a 200 square foot Minimum Order Requirement (MOQ) while the Waterproof Barnwood Planks have a 1000 square foot MOQ and the Cedar Planks all have a 400 square foot MOQ. However, you may mix and match plank sizes and/or colors of the same type to meet the minimum.
Check the product page to verify the MOQ for the type of plank you wish to order.
WHAT IS THE ‘QUICK-LOCK’ FEATURE ON THE CEILING & WALL PLANKS?
The 'Quick-Lock' feature refers to the fact that the planks are end-matched with a Tongue and Groove (T&G) profile that interlocks on ALL 4 edges (2 long sides + 2 short ends) eliminating the need for the butt-joints/seams to be placed on a ceiling joist or wall stud.
The resulting benefit is a Quick & Easy, Tight-Fitting, Low-Waste installation which reduces cutting and labor and can be blind nailed to conceal all fasteners.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN THE PRE-FINISHED CEILING & WALL PLANKS AFTER THEY’VE BEEN INSTALLED?
The pre-finished Ceiling & Wall Planks can be easily cleaned with a duster or a damp cloth. The use of chemical cleaners and excess water is not recommended.
