FREE SHIPPING NOW! Our Pre-Finished White, MDF – T&G Shiplap with Nickel Gap, Ceiling & Wall Planks are an environmentally friendly and economically savvy alternative to solid wood planks when a smooth painted finish is desired. They’re also an excellent alternative to drywall.
Unlike traditional shiplap planks that simply overlap one another and must be face nailed when installed, our end-matched ‘Quick-Lock’, Tongue and Groove (T&G) profile interlocks on ALL 4 edges (2 long sides + 2 short ends) eliminating the need for end-joint seams to be placed on a ceiling joist or wall stud. The resulting benefit is a Quick & Easy, Tight-Fitting, Low-Waste installation that can be blind nailed to conceal all fasteners.
Milled from premium-grade Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) to precise tolerances, each plank is then factory finished with a hard, satin sheen top coat and UV cured for a super smooth surface with extreme durability.
WHAT IS MDF?
About 65 to 70 percent of a tree can be used for solid lumber, but what about the rest? In the past the answer was simple: It was burned or dumped into landfills. Today more than 95 percent of a harvested tree can be put to good use thanks in great part to the increased use of engineered wood products. Among these, Medium Density Fiberboard, or “MDF” for short, has enjoyed remarkable success over recent years.
MDF is typically made from sawdust, planer shavings and other wood waste that remains after a tree is milled into lumber. The wood waste is then cleaned and mechanically refined in a process that reduces it into fine, uniform fibers. Excess moisture is removed and an adhesive resin is added to hold the fibers together. This mix is then formed into a long, thick, homogeneous mat, which is compressed under intense heat and pressure. The resulting MDF panel is sanded to a fine, even smoothness, and cut to various sizes. Computer-controlled sensors monitor the entire manufacturing process to measure slight variations that even the human eye cannot detect. Finished panels are tested for uniformity, strength and other structural soundness.
Like other engineered wood products, MDF has a distinctively flat, smooth and dense surface that holds paint well, making it ideal for paint-grade planks. It doesn’t move like solid wood, so joints stay tight and paint doesn’t crack, but the glory of MDF is in its uniformity; it can be machined into every conceivable shape to create various architectural details from balusters to moldings. Unlike solid wood, MDF has no knots, grain and will not cup or warp. While solid wood is better suited to structural applications such as floor joists and wall studs, MDF is a more cost effective material choice so it’s well suited for interior moldings, millwork, cabinetry and of course, our Ceiling & Wall Planks.

ARE THE CEILING & WALL PLANKS MADE IN THE USA?
Yes. All of the Ceiling & Wall Plank products are proudly made in the USA.
ARE THERE ANY PRE-FINISHED OPTIONS FOR THE CEILING & WALL PLANKS?
Yes. All of the Ceiling & Wall Planks are available pre-finished. Please see the specific product pages for the available finishes for each.
CAN CEILING & WALL PLANKS BE INSTALLED DIRECTLY TO THE FRAMING JOISTS, TRUSSES OR STUDS?
Yes. There is no issue in doing so, however consult with your local building department, as drywall may be a code requirement in certain circumstances.
CAN CEILING & WALL PLANKS BE MADE FIRE-RATED?
Only our Faux Wood Ceiling & Wall Planks are available with a Fire-Rated option to meet any fire-code requirements your project may have.
CAN CEILING & WALL PLANKS BE USED / INSTALLED OUTSIDE?
Yes. Ceiling & Wall Planks (including MDF*) can be used in “dry” exterior applications (i.e. no direct contact with wet weather like rain or snow). For example on a porch ceiling where they will be exposed to temperature and humidity changes, but never get wet.
If you need planks that can withstand direct contact with wet weather see our Waterproof Barnwood Planks which carry a 10 year warranty.
*We recommend that the MDF Planks be sealed on the back (if not already factory primed on back) and painted with an exterior-grade paint on the front when used in these types of applications.
CAN I GET A CEILING & WALL PLANK SAMPLE BEFORE ORDERING?
Yes. We offer a variety of faux wood beam Sample Kit options HERE
*The cost of the Sample Kit you purchase will be credited towards your faux wood beam order.

However, all of our products have been designed with the ease of installation in mind and so they may be installed by both DIYers and professionals alike.
DO YOU OFFER MATCHING MOLDINGS OR TRIM FOR THE CEILING & WALL PLANKS?
No. However, complimenting trim can be made by cutting the Ceiling & Wall Planks into the required widths and lengths needed. Otherwise, we recommend using moldings and trim of a contrasting color and/or finish (i.e. moldings or trim painted white).
DOES TILTON OFFER TOUCH-UP KITS FOR THEIR CEILING & WALL PLANKS?
No. Due to the proprietary color formulation and application process, providing touch-up stain or paint is not possible. Consult with a paint professional at your local retailer to have a custom stain or paint color mixed to suits your needs.
HOW DO I MEASURE FOR CEILING & WALL PLANKS?
The easiest way to measure for Ceiling & Wall Planks is by using the square foot method. To calculate the square footage simply measure the length of your ceiling or wall and multiply it by the width. Add up all the walls and/or ceilings you would like to cover and deduct for any window or door openings to determine the exact square footage. Then add 15% to allow for waste.
HOW MUCH DO CEILING & WALL PLANKS WEIGH?
The Ceiling & Wall Planks weigh in at just 1 – 1.25 pounds per linear foot, which translates to about 8-10 pounds per 8ft plank and 16-20 pounds per 16ft plank.
IS THERE A MINIMUM ORDER REQUIREMENT FOR CEILING & WALL PLANKS?
Yes. Most Ceiling & Wall Planks have a 200 square foot Minimum Order Requirement (MOQ) while the Waterproof Barnwood Planks have a 1000 square foot MOQ and the Cedar Planks all have a 400 square foot MOQ. However, you may mix and match plank sizes and/or colors of the same type to meet the minimum.
Check the product page to verify the MOQ for the type of plank you wish to order.
WHAT IS THE ‘QUICK-LOCK’ FEATURE ON THE CEILING & WALL PLANKS?
The 'Quick-Lock' feature refers to the fact that the planks are end-matched with a Tongue and Groove (T&G) profile that interlocks on ALL 4 edges (2 long sides + 2 short ends) eliminating the need for the butt-joints/seams to be placed on a ceiling joist or wall stud.
The resulting benefit is a Quick & Easy, Tight-Fitting, Low-Waste installation which reduces cutting and labor and can be blind nailed to conceal all fasteners.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN THE PRE-FINISHED CEILING & WALL PLANKS AFTER THEY’VE BEEN INSTALLED?
The pre-finished Ceiling & Wall Planks can be easily cleaned with a duster or a damp cloth. The use of chemical cleaners and excess water is not recommended.
WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON CEILING & WALL PLANKS?
Tilton Coffered Ceilings, Inc. (TCC) provides a Limited Five (5) Year Warranty to the original purchaser of its materials and/or any products it has fabricated from those materials at any of its manufacturing facilities.
